New Fines On Smart Motorways

Motorway red X signs indicate a closed lane ahead however 23% of people ignore these signs. They are put in place to protect drivers from dangers ahead and those who ignore it are putting themselves and other road users at risk. From 10th June 2019 cameras will be in force to issue Fixed Penalty Notices to drivers who ignore the red X signs. Drivers caught by the cameras could receive 3 penalty points on their licence and face a fine of up to £100.
